With Christmas coming right around the corner, I personally don’t feel in a festive mood this year. Maybe the fact that year has overall has been quite saddening and we just want it over, or it is just me growing up? Nevertheless, this has got me thinking about what actually makes up Christmas spirit, that feeling of not being able to sleep on Christmas Eve. It is something that we feel but can not narrow down what it is exactly. So what you are going to read is my recipe book for the perfect Christmas spirit. The Music I think it is safe to say that music can make someone feel any amount of emotions. This is no different for Christmas music, it doesn't matter if it is Shakin’ Stevens or Michael Buble, Christmas music can sometimes make the worst Grinches happy. As soon as December strikes, every mainstream will be playing Mariah Careys’ All I Want For Christmas is You over and over and over again till the end of time. No matter how annoying it is, it will never fail to put me in the Christmas mood. If we were to compare a human body, I would have to say that Christmas music is the heart of all things Christmas. Family & Friends Although this year we will be limited to who we can see, family and friends are no doubt a reason for Christmas spirit. None of your Christmas memories that you treasure are of you being by yourself, it is with family and friends. It could be the opening of presents or some weird traditions. For example, every year with my family, before it goes in the oven, we slap the turkey. I don’t know why but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Being able to watch movies with your family and singing songs will always have a special place in my heart. The Food Honestly food is one of my favourite parts of Christmas, coming out of the holidays ten pounds larger, stuffing your face, is just the best. Christmas dinner, you and your family sitting down with them cheap crowns that break in an instant, getting potato peelers out of crackers and telling the most awful jokes you could possibly tell. Pigs in blankets, with roast potatoes, turkey and brussel sprouts smothered in gravy that your parents probably put their heart and soul into is the best, until you have to do the washing up.
Conclusion
What I have come to realise is that, it isn’t one thing that makes Christmas spirit, everyone goes hand in hand to create it. This year has been tough on all of us, not one of us hasn’t been affected and Christmas has been our break for everything that has happened. So my message is that everyone takes advantage of the Christmas spirit to round off the year in a nice little bow. I hope that everyone has an amazing Christmas, even if the guidelines get in the way a little bit. Be grateful for being lucky at this time of year but still have fun.
Merry Christmas!
