The results are in, and there is one clear winner….Joe Biden takes the polls by storm. With the current electoral votes being 290 to the Democratic leader compared to the 214 votes for Trump, Biden has defeated his opponent. His inauguration is expected to take place on the 20th January 2021, officially marking the change for America. Provided there are no issues in regards to the recount, America will be welcoming a new President to the White House.
What does this mean for America? A new era has begun! Biden promises to roll out a new test and trace system to tackle the Coronavirus pandemic, rejoin the Global Climate Accord and undo Trump's policies on immigration. As well as expanding obamacare and restoring America's reputation. But what about between now and his inauguration? The gap intends to ease the transition between the two administrations; a transition team is assembled. This is where they pick people to serve in the cabinet, discuss policy priorities and prepare to govern. Members of the team will go into the federal agencies to get briefed on things like deadlines, budgets and duties, which creates a smooth transition for America's government.
What about legal challenges? Trump is alleging fraud against Biden and is prompting lawsuits as well as the involvement of the Supreme Court, however many experts do not believe Trump will be successful in his attempt to alter the results in his favour, which begs the question: is he just a sore loser? Many of us say yes. America has spoken, and with fraud being a highly unlikely cause for Biden’s success, it seems as though he will be the 46th president of the United States.
There will be many mixed opinions and views. Some want four more years of Trump, whereas others want a new face in the White House, no matter the view, we can all say congratulations to Biden and hope that America can reform their world image and move on from Trump’s leadership.
What's your view? Is Biden the right man for the job? Does America need to rethink their democratic system? Should Trump accept defeat gracefully? We all need to have our own view in order to fully decide our political stance. Congratulations to the democratic leader and may he push America into a state of prosperity.
