Biden/Harris Inauguration

Updated: Jul 16, 2022

It's a new era for America! On the 20th January 2021, President Joe Biden was officially inaugurated along with Vice President Kamala Harris, the first female Vice President America has ever had. The inaugural ceremony took place in Washington D.C. and was the 59th presidential inauguration in American history. Biden swore the Presidential Oath of Promise as did Harris state the Vice Presidential Oath of Promise, marking a new era for America and naming Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States.

This inauguration took place among extraordinary political, public health, economic and national security crises in America. Following Donald Trump's attempts to overturn the election, thousands stormed the United States’ capital in a violent protest against Trump's defeat all incited by Trump's constant belief that the election was stolen from him. On the morning of January 6th, the ‘save America’ rally stormed the capital in a futile attempt to keep Donald Trump as their president. Following this, Donald Trump is facing his second impeachment for high crime and misdemeanour; this means that he could be the first president in US history to be impeached twice.

This inauguration will go down in history for occurring in such different circumstances. Not only has it occurred in states of political unrest and a public health crisis, but also, it will go down in history for many other reasons too…

Joe Biden is officially the oldest person to ever be President in the US at 78 years old, he is also the first person from the state of Delaware to become President. As well as this, his Vice President Kamala Harris is the first woman and African American to be Vice President.

We are currently living through such significant events. Everything that's happening in the world currently - the inauguration, the pandemic, etc - will go down in history and will be things that we will be telling future generations for years to come.

What do you think… is the presidential election something that interests you? Should Trump be impeached again?
