How Businesses Have Coped in Lockdown

Updated: Jul 15, 2022

Lots of businesses are struggling to stay open because people are feeling it's unsafe to go to shops other than essential ones. Not all shops have been able to reopen due to lack of space or feel it is just too unsafe to reopen and risk the health of staff and customers.

On average, a shop assistant's average salary is £17,170 or £7.94 an hour. Now, with people not coming in, shops are earning less and salaries have dropped by ⅔ - but the government is now offering ⅓ of a shop workers salary. Some businesses have had to furlough people to reduce the number of staff or when closing. Most businesses have struggled to reopen and some have resorted to websites to pay wages and rent, as well as making an income.
