Upcoming Films This Christmas

Updated: Jul 16, 2022

This Christmas is set to be another fairly peculiar one; hopefully the films will save it this year. In this article I will run down the 5 biggest films coming out before the 25th.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid - (December 3rd)

Disney have a thing of remaking old films. From Mulan to Lady and the Tramp, Diary of a Wimpy Kid is the latest in this long line of remakes. But Disney has decided to make a major change from the early 21st century films (no I’m not including the awful 2017 version as one of them). Instead of being live-action, it will be animated, with Jeff Kinney’s drawings finally being brought to life.

Spider Man No Way Home - (December 17th)

Spider Man No Way Home has potential to be the biggest film of the year. The multiversal conversion is set to be won of the big turning points of the MCU with Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin), Alfred Molina (Doc Ock), Jamie Foxx (Electro), Rhys Ifans (Lizard) and Thomas Haden Church (Sandman) all returning. There rumours around the two other 21st century Spidermen (Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire) also returning: this is set to be exciting.

Sing 2 - (December 22nd)

Okay, okay. I know that this officially comes out in the UK in January but I’m going by its American release date. Anyway, on with the article. The second instalment from Universal, Sing 2 has got yet another all star cast this year as many are excited to see what it offers. This time, it is set to follow the original cast going into the big city as they are hired to be in another show. However they must fulfil a promise to bring back a singing legend. Will they succeed? Find out this winter.

West Side Story - (December 10th)

The next musical to be adapted for the silver screen, West Side Story, is a romance based on William Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. It differs, however, from the streets of Verona to the Upper West Side of the Big Apple. It centres around the two main characters' (Tony and Maria, who are from two different rival gangs) romance. With Steven Spielberg set to put his 21st century spin on it, this should be a blast for Broadway and Cinema fans alike.

Encanto - (3rd December)

Pixar’s winter film has arrived, and it looks epic. When Mirabel’s family’s house is discovered to be magic, her family begin to get special powers. Not Mirabel, though. But when the house begins to fall apart it’s up to Mirabel to save the magic. Will she do it, or will the magic be left in tatters? To find out, go and watch it in cinemas near you!
